"we're a tribute to the sisters of mercy - we're called the brothers of misery"
us: "this is another top 40 classic..."
them: "you're not going to play any of the miserable ones tonight are you? well, as long as you don't play 'leave me alone'"
highlight: comedy introduction to 'as it is when it was' - "I've had too much beer." the re-interpretation of the classic 'eternal' as david brent doing bodytalk by imagination. and after the longest gestation of any of our rehearsed songs - transmission (19 months)
notes: another bugbear birthday gig, this time for ian. well attended for a 30min early support slot but perhaps a little too soon after the underworld gig. almost an entire set of debuts was retrospectively a tad too ambitious. with only 'leave me alone' and 'cries and whispers' previously seeing the light of stage. also ceremony as (if you don't leave the stage - you can't call it) an encore.
ian: "I think i was more pissed than the audience at this one. Still if you can't be daft on your birthday when can you be fucking daft."
